Emporia State University says it will have a net decrease in tuition costs for the 2024-2025 academic year.
ESU had planned to ask the Kansas Board of Regents form an increase in both tuition and fees, but now the university is keeping both flat — according to the university, thus resulting in hundreds of dollars in net decreases for all students.
A reduction in university debt is the stated reason.
The plan is awaiting official approval by the Board of Regents next month. The university says offering a net decrease is a “first-ever” for the Board of Regents system and follows comments made by President Ken Hush at commencement, where Hush said the ongoing cost increases were unfair to students.
ESU students are also enjoying new or enhanced scholarship opportunities, and Hush says more announcements will be made this summer. The university says it is also trying to reduce costs such as application and parking fees while providing in-state tuition costs across the contiguous 48 states and passing along the benefits of “operational efficiencies.”
