The David Traylor Zoo will be opening its newly renovated education center this weekend.
Activities will begin at 1 pm Sunday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the zoo followed by tours of the facility and interactions with zoo docents, animal ambassadors and Education Coordinator Kelli Proehl. Zoo Director Lisa Keith joined KVOE’s Morning Show Thursday to preview the event and says the new facility has several improvements, namely the size of the building.
Activities will run until 3 pm. The updated education center is just one of many improvements to come to the zoo as a result of the multi-million dollar Oasis Capital Campaign which also facilitated a new entrance and new parking lots on the west and east side of the education center.
More work is still to come over the next year with work on the king lemur, wallaby and cereopsis goose exhibits and the addition of a North American River Otter exhibit. For additional details be sure to visit EmporiaZoo.org or find the David Traylor Zoo on Facebook.
