Two area high school track and field teams claimed regional championships on Friday.
In the Class 1A regional hosted by Waverly in Iola, the Northern Heights girls won the regional with 72 points, four points more than runner-up Marmaton Valley. Ellei McCrory led the way with three first place finishes, the 800m (2:31.63), the 1,600m (5:21.74) and the 3,200m (12:23.19). McCrory anchored the Wildcats’ 4x800m relay to a first place finish with a time of 10:33.83. McCrory was joined on the relay by Josie Tiffany, Alanna Brecheisen and Laura Cathcart. Jaitlyn Johnson won two regional championships in the shot put (35-3) and discus (129-4). Reese Houck rounded out the Wildcats’ state qualifiers taking second in the high jump.
In the Class 2A regional at Erie, the Lyndon boys won the regional with 84 points, six points more than Chase County. Tanner Heckel won four regional championships, long jump (23-9), triple jump (44-0.50), javelin (181-3) and 100m (10.86). Kaedin Massey won two regional championships, discus (164-9) and shot put (50-10.75). The 4x100m relay team of James Marcotte, Zach Criqui, Caston Wirth and Asher Edington finished second (44.92). Josh Vignery had a pair of third place finishes in the hurdles, 110m (16.02) and 300m (43.47).
The Chase County boys won five regional championships en route to their runner-up finish. Tag Groh won the 400m (50.21) and took third in the 200m (23.15). Groh teamed up with Brock Griffin, Wyatt Griffin and Luke Budke to win both the 4×100 (44.01) and 4x400m relays (3:29.64). Wyatt Griffin won the high jump (6-2). Budke won the pole vault (12-6). Brock Griffin finished second in the 400m (51.28). Nano Zuniga finished fourth in the javelin (144-0). The 4x800m relay team of Silus Hernandez, Tate Morgan, Landon Doty and Carson Schroer finished fourth (8:41.16).
The Chase County and Lyndon girls finished in a tie for fourth with 48.50 points. Chase County had one regional champion in Madelyn Wilson who won the javelin (132-7). Wilson also finished second in the discus (116-10) and shot put (40-8.50). Kinzie Rogers finished second in the pole vault (8-0). Sadie Mushrush finished second in the 800m (2:34.61). Kinslea Glanville finished fourth in the 3,200m (15:26.23).
Lyndon also had a regional champion, from its 4x400m relay team of Peyton Weston, Lexi Totty, Jaedyn Segrist and Trysten Sowers finishing in 4:16.23. Sowers finished second in the 400m (1:02.17) and third in the 200m (26.97). Morgan Gross finished second in the javelin (118-0). The 4x100m relay team of Totty, Reanna Marcotte, Segrist and Sowers finished second (52.33).
The Madison boys finished fourth at Iola with 49 points. Cruz Leiser won the pole vault with a clearance of 11-6. Hayden Helm finished second in the javelin (151-1) and the discus (134-9). Octavian Dean finished second in the 110m hurdles (16.71). Colton Isch finished third in the triple jump (39-11.50).
The Olpe boys and girls each finished fifth. The Eagles had 44 points. The 4x800m relay team of Jesse Kuhlmann, Isaac Arnold, William Beadles and Kaleb Arnold finished second (9:05.59). Kuhlmann finished second in the 800m (2:11.18). Kaleb Arnold finished third in the 1,600m (4:43.27). The 4x400m relay team of Kuhlmann, Cale Steffes, Levi Heins and Kaleb Arnold finished third (3:43.42). Colten Wolf finished fourth in the pole vault (10-6). The Lady Eagles recorded 53 points. Hana Cole took second in the discus (104-1). The 4x800m relay team of Kinley Heins, Kadey Robert, Milly Bailey and Lilly Skalsky finished second (10:54.25). Skalsky finished third in the pole vault (7-6) and took fourth in the 1,600m (6:00.14) and the 3,200m (13:06.55). The 4x400m relay team of Ella Wilson, Bailey, Aubryn Garriott and Robert finished third (4:29.47). Robert finished third in the 400m (1:04.74). Grace Coughlin finished fourth in the javelin (107-2). Garriott took fourth in the triple jump (31-6.50).
The Lebo boys finished sixth with 41 points. Corey Reese finished second in the pole vault (11-0). Grayson Shoemaker finished third in the 400m 54.53. Caleb Durst finished fourth in the 1,600m (4:43.89) and the 800m (2:12.67). Zach Oswald finished fourth in the discus (121-3). The 4x100m relay team of Reese, Eli Hauff, Taegan Kelly and Kaden Balding finished fourth (47.00). Reese, Hauff, Shoemaker and Durst made up the 4x400m relay team that finished fourth (3:43.92). The Lebo girls finished eighth with 29 points. Audrey Peek won the pole vault (8-6) and took second in the javelin (112-1). Alexis Hutchinson took third in the high jump (4-8).
At Erie, the Mission Valley girls finished seventh with 42 points. Emma Slade won the discus (142-0) and shot put (41-7). Kailyn Jacobson finished third in the javelin (117-7). Avay Boyden finished third in the 1,600m (6:09.78). The Mission Valley boys finished ninth with 24 points. Ian Deters finished second in the javelin (164-6). Porter Deters was second in the triple jump (42-1.75). Parker Durkin finished fourth in the discus (123-6).
The Burlingame girls finished ninth at Iola with 28 points. Harper Seele finished second in the shot put (35-1.50). Seele, Madison Hovestadt, Kaylin Noonan and Willow Wyatt made up the 4x100m relay team that finished second (51.88). Hovestadt finished third in the triple jump (33-6). Wyatt finished fourth in the 200m (28.61).
The Northern Heights boys finished 10th at Iola with 26 points. Cooper Hamlin won the 1,600m (4:39.44). Rees Spade won the 800m (2:10.06). The 4x800m relay team of Spade, Max Olson, Jacob Merrill and Hamlin finished third (9:07.07.
The Madison girls finished 11th with 15 points. Jalynn Weakley finished third in the javelin (109-9). Caylin Luthi finished third in the 800m (2:38.85). Hamilton’s Candice Ashlock finished third in the discus (102-3).
The Hartford girls finished 12th with 12 points with Trinity Windle winning the high jump (4-10). The Hartford boys finished 11th with 22 points. Grayson Dailey won the 400m (52.41) and the 200m (23.48).
The Waverly girls finished 13th with 10 points. Josie Romig won the javelin with a throw of 120-2. The Waverly boys finished 16th with five points. Carter Ohl finished fourth in the triple jump (39-10.50).
The Marais des Cygnes Valley girls finished 17th with 6 points. Akyra Traver finished third in the 100m hurdles (16.38).
The Southern Coffey County boys finished 12th with 20 points. Reeston Cox finished second in the shot put (44-6.25), and third in the javelin (150-6) and the discus (121-14). The SCC girls finished 19th with 6 points. Emily Ludolph finished fourth in the shot put (33-4).
