The world’s premier gravel cycling event now has a new leader at the helm.
Sean Thurman was recently named the new Race Director for the Lifetime Unbound Gravel series of races which are set to launch in a little less than two weeks. Thurman comes to Emporia after working with Medalist Sports out of Atlanta, Georgia where he oversaw operations for several large-scale road and gravel bike races.
Thurman notes his time with Medalist was more focused on large-scale road races, as opposed to gravel, however, he is very confident in his ability to oversee the Unbound activities noting that while the terrain may be different, the operational side is virtually the same. That being said, He tells KVOE News that one glaring difference between his past experiences and his new position is the support of the local community.
Thurman has hit the ground running since taking over the race director position three weeks ago replacing former director Ben Sachs. The Unbound Gravel series of races are set to launch on Friday, May 31 with the Unbound Gravel 350 XL.
All other race distances including the signature 200-mile ride will launch on Saturday, June 1 from downtown Emporia. For more information visit Unboundgravel.com.
