Emporia’s popular splash pad at Peter Pan Park has been open for two weeks now. Strong City is set to officially open up the tap on its new splash pad later this month.
The facility has been available for use for about a week, but the city has announced a special opening day ceremony May 27 from 11 am to 1 pm, including both access to the new facility at Strong City Park and a community picnic with hot dogs, chips, water, cookies and popsicles. Residents attending are asked to bring their swimsuit and a towel.
After several years of planning, construction work began last year but had to end by late summer due to drought conditions and supply chain issues.
Residents are still encouraged to donate to the project and can call the city offices at 620-273-6345 for more information.
