Emporia Police have released additional information into the two-vehicle accident that led to one of the involved vehicles overturning and its driver being hospitalized Tuesday evening.
According to Emporia Police Captain Ray Mattas, 23-year-old Taylor Stuart of Emporia was traveling southbound in the 1400 block of Lawrence in a 2018 Chevy Cruze when she struck a 2012 Jeep Liberty which was legally parked on the street. Officers at the scene told KVOE News the tires of both vehicles made contact and caused the Cruze to overturn and land on its roof.
Officers said Stuart was complaining of chest pain following the accident and was taken to Newman Regional Health for possible treatment. Mattas says “inattentive driving is believed to be the cause of the accident.”
Word on possible citations is currently pending. No other individuals were inside of either vehicle and Stuart was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
