With names continuing to pour in for the coming 2024 election, there is one name that will be absent from the ballot for the first time in 16 years.
After much speculation, longtime Lyon County Commission Chairman and District 3 representative Rollie Martin made his future intentions clear during an interview with KVOE News Thursday morning.
Martin says there are several reasons for his decision, chief among them being his age.
So far, three individuals have filed for the District 3 seat including Republican Warren Schmidt who announced his candidacy earlier this week. Schmidt will face a primary challenge from fellow Republican Chris Bartel who filed for the position back in April.
Meanwhile, Bill Nienstedt is the lone Democrat on the ballot after filing earlier this month. In addition to District 3, the Lyon County Commission District Two seat is up for election with incumbent Doug Peck being challenged by Sid Morgan.
All other county department head positions have candidates filed:
*Republican Amy Aranda is running for County Attorney to replace Marc Goodman, who is retiring.
*Republican Amie Jackson has filed for County Clerk to replace Tammy Vopat, who is retiring.
*Republican Wendy Weiss has filed for re-election to Register of Deeds.
*Republican Jeff Cope has filed for re-election to Sheriff.
*Democrat Sharon Gaede has filed for re-election to County Treasurer.
