An Amtrak train moving through Emporia had a minor derailment early Saturday.
Emporia Police were notified of a possible derailment near the East Sixth Avenue viaduct just before 4 am, finding the second locomotive had come off the track.
The incident happened on the Topeka spur, not the main line, and the train involved was seven cars long so none of the train was on the main track running east-west through Emporia.
Nearly 160 passengers and over 20 crew members were on the train. Nobody was hurt. Early indications are Amtrak will bring buses to the wreck site to keep passengers and crew moving towards their destination, which was not revealed at the site.
