As car seats are always evolving, so too are the methods for properly installing them in your vehicle. With that in mind, local drivers had the opportunity to double-check and ensure their young passengers were fully secure thanks to a recent partnership between Safe Kids Emporia and nursing students of Rasmussen University.
The two entities hosted a child seat safety check lane Tuesday afternoon at Emporia’s Fire Station 2. On hand for the event was Emporia Police Detective and certified technician Jaffar Agha.
Agha says opportunities like Tuesday are important and should be taken advantage of by anyone with children who require a car seat.
Rasmussen nursing student and organizer Tammy Wyatt says Tuesday’s event was part of her and her fellow students’ curriculum. She says they were tasked with creating an event that provided a needed service to the community and child seat safety fit all the criteria.
Besides the inspection and installation of car seats, Tuesday’s safety check lane also included educational pamphlets for parents and snacks, stickers and other goodies for children courtesy of the Rasmussen students.
