The Special Olympics Games are set to be held in Wichita this weekend and athletes will get an opportunity to march in Emporia with the torch.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run will leave Emporia on Thursday to head to El Dorado. The torch will arrive in Emporia on Wednesday afternoon when local authorities pick it up just south of Beto Junction from Franklin County authorities.
Torch run spokesperson Jake Lamunyon says Law Enforcement authorities have made an impact in supporting Special Olympic athletes.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Kolesch says with Unbound Gravel festivities happening around the torch run, more people have turned out for the parade down Commercial.
Thursday’s festivities will include Ron’s Ride with KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas riding with local authorities down to Olpe while on their way to El Dorado. Before leaving Emporia for Olpe, there will be a stop at Hetlinger.
