Downtown Emporia traffic is being adjusted the rest of the week with Unbound Gravel activities picking up speed.
The Emporia Police Department says the 600 and 700 blocks of Mechanic are closed for setup of the All Things Gravel Expo, along with the 10 and 100 blocks of East Seventh and the 10 block of East Eighth. Those streets will be closed through 10 pm Friday.
On Friday, the 800 block of Commercial will close at 8:30 am. This comes in advance of a massive shakeout ride launching from Eighth and Commercial at 9 am, with riders going north on Commercial, west to Merchant and north out of Emporia. Officers say as many as 1,000 riders will be part of that ride, so Emporia Police will lead the riders out of town. Drivers are asked to use an alternate routes while that shakeout ride leaves town.
Saturday has the final list of road closures as Commercial Street closes between Sixth and 12th, 12th closes between Commercial and Union and Highland closes from 12th to Merchant Street for the race and finish line party. These streets will be closed from 4 am Saturday to 4 am Sunday.
