Replacing the Interstate 35 bridge over Lincoln Street has officially taken the next step forward.
Kansas Department of Transportation crews have started head-to-head traffic for I-35 traffic over the bridge, closing the north half of the bridge and thus creating a head-to-head traffic situation involving the northbound lanes.
Meanwhile, the bridge has now closed to Lincoln Street traffic and will remain closed for the duration of the project, likely until at least August 2025.
Weather permitting, and there may be delays due to numerous rain chances areawide, two significant city projects move ahead by early next month. This includes the 24th and Prairie waterline improvement project, involving new waterline from the Water Treatment Plant at 24th and Industrial east on 24th to Prairie and then south to 12th. Work is tentatively set to begin Monday and could go through most of 2025.
Also, Street Rehab is set to begin by early next month. Over 20 various street segments will get a 2-inch asphalt overlay as well as concrete and handicapped-accessible ramp repairs.
