Democrat Ron McCoy plans to get down to business, quite literally, if elected to the Lyon County Commission later this year.
McCoy, the owner of A-1 Pump and Jet, recently spoke with KVOE News, just a few days after filing for election to the seat currently held by Republican incumbent Doug Peck. McCoy says he has always wanted to take up a position to give back to the community and tells KVOE News the timing is perfect for him to make the move into local government.
If elected, McCoy says his chief focus will be to attract and grow businesses throughout the county, specifically businesses that βcan afford to pay higher than a minimum or base rate pay.β
McCoy is the lone Democrat in the second district race. Meanwhile, Peck will face a primary challenge from Sid Morgan. The field of candidates for the Lyon County Commission Third District seat, set to be vacated by longtime commissioner Rollie Martin, is crowded on the Republican side.
Four Republicans have filed β Chris Bartel, Warren Schmidt, Jarom Smith and Jon Vopat β along with Democrat Bill Nienstedt. The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon Monday.
