Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for area counties between midnight and sunrise Sunday, but actual severe weather reports stayed outside the KVOE listening area.
Storms dropped heavy rain and large hail across parts of Morris, Osage, Wabaunsee, Dickinson, Geary and Washington counties as they moved east across the state. The closest severe weather report to the KVOE coverage territory was half dollar-sized hail in White City. Rainfall totals are currently pending.
The early-Sunday storms developed as part of a marginal severe weather risk listed for areas along and west of a line from Manhattan to Emporia. A marginal-to-slight risk area for hail and wind has been outlined for early Monday morning, with areas just west of the Kansas Turnpike in the slight risk area. In addition, a marginal risk area has been posted for areas along and south of Interstate 35 and the Turnpike for Monday night and for areas north -35 and US Highway 50 for Tuesday.
