New legislation introduced in part by Kansas US Senator Jerry Moran will seek to help the nation’s veterans easily navigate challenges in the healthcare system.
Senator Moran, alongside Maine Senator Angus King, recently unveiled the Coordinating Care for Senior Veterans and Wounded Warriors Act. The legislation targets veterans 65 years and older and disabled veterans who are dually enrolled in Medicare and VA health care.
According to a recent news release, a significant number of senior and disabled veterans are dual enrolled which can cause complications when it comes to navigating the two agencies. The new legislation will create a three-year pilot program that assigns case managers to help veterans develop individualized care plans and manage their healthcare services.
It is the hope of federal lawmakers the bill will help to eliminate gaps in care and duplication of services, improve quality of care and lower expenses for taxpayers. In the aforementioned news release, Senator Moran stated “This bill will help senior veterans and those with disabilities, as well as their caregivers and providers, to better understand and navigate the two ways to receive care. I am grateful to my colleague Senator King and our partners in the veteran service organization community for supporting this legislation.”
