Emporia’s First Congregational Church is set to have a community get-together on Saturday.
Festivities will run from Noon to 2 p.m. at the church at 326 W. 12th Avenue. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and desserts will be available along with games and kids activities.
Pastor Ashton McDonald says it’s important for the church to be involved and familiar with the community.
McDonald, who moved to Emporia a year ago, says he is very excited for the get-together as it is also an opportunity to further acquaint himself with community members outside of the church. First Congregational Church has been playing an important role in the community for many residents for the past several years as it houses its own baby closet.
During his interview with KVOE Wednesday morning, McDonald noted the closet has seen record numbers over the last year.
