Orange cone season is in full bloom in Emporia.
Drivers have several construction zones now underway, including two major projects in northwest Emporia: the 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project and the Interstate 35 bridge replacement over Lincoln Street.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday, City Engineer Jim Ubert said this the 24th and Prairie project will be a huge improvement — but a lengthy one.
The 24th and Prairie project will add almost 13,000 linear feet of new water pipe, ranging from 6 to 24 inches in diameter. Over 30 new service lines and other infrastructure will be added as well.
As KVOE News reported recently, Lincoln Street has been closed at the Interstate 35 bridge as the Kansas Department of Transportation continues work to replace the bridge. Ubert says the bridge will be similar to what’s in place now at Interstate 35 over Burlingame, improving visibility for all and also safety for both pedestrians and cyclists. Lincoln will be closed at the bridge, but 24th at Lincoln will remain open.
