It’s a busy time for the Emporia Lions Club.
Members observed Flag Day with their now-annual flag-waving event on Road S over Interstate 35 on Friday. Spokesman Gary Post says nearly 20 people joined club members on the bridge, and there was a “wonderful” response from I-35 travelers throughout the two-hour event.
The club has also announced the recipients of its Cleve Cook/Emporia Lions Club grants for the year, doing so on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Thursday. The fund was started a decade ago by Cook’s family, who wanted to honor Cook’s longstanding work through the club.
This year’s total grant award is over $34,000. The full list of beneficiaries is online at KVOE.com. Checks will be presented at the Lions Club’s annual meeting at 5:30 pm Wednesday at Peter Pan Park.
