The Coffey County Commission has a special meeting ahead.
Board members are meeting at 9:30 am Tuesday to get a status report on EMP Shield’s CHIPS Act application. Dr. Karl Wyatt of Trusted Electronic Materials will lead the presentation.
An executive session is tentatively planned if commissioners decide to take that step.
Ground was broken on the multi-billion-dollar project back in August. The microelectronics producer SSM is planning to build a 30,000 square-foot facility with over 60 jobs to start once construction is done. SSM has been planning to supply semiconductor components for EMP Shield, based in Burlington, and other semiconductor producers across the country. It has also been planning to offer rapid prototypes for other manufactures, both for private-sector businesses and the US Department of Defense.
Tuesday’s meeting is at the Coffey County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
