A low-end severe weather risk led to no severe storm activity for area counties Saturday.
Except for Coffey County, all area counties — Lyon included — were in a severe thunderstorm watch for several hours. However, severe storms stayed northwest of the KVOE signal area and a line of showers broke up before nearing the area.
This was the second straight day a marginal severe weather risk did not materialize across the KVOE listening area.
Showers and storms are possible but unlikely for Father’s Day, which should have highs in the low 90s with breezy conditions.
5 pm Saturday: Lyon, most surrounding counties in severe thunderstorm watch until 10 pm
Almost all area counties are in a severe thunderstorm watch through most of Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service has Lyon, Chase, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties in a watch until 10 pm. The hazards are hail to the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 80 mph.

7:30 am Saturday: Marginal hail, wind risk ahead Saturday evening; heat to remain through Tuesday
There is another low-end severe weather risk for the KVOE listening area Saturday evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has our area in a marginal risk involving wind and hail. Better chances for severe weather are north of Interstate 70 into Nebraska, as was the case Friday night and early Saturday. Much of the KVOE listening area was in a marginal risk area Friday night into Saturday morning, but that has not materialized.
Summertime heat and humidity remain in place after a high of 89 and peak heat index of 97 Friday. Saturday’s high is projected at 93, with highs in the low- to mid-90s through at least Tuesday. The experimental National Weather Service HeatRisk index, which measures heat-related impacts for residents, has moderate to major impact levels Saturday through Monday and moderate impacts Tuesday.
