Emporia City Commissioners could take final action on a pair of major zoning requests as part of their upcoming action and study meetings Tuesday.
Commissioners will consider approving a conditional use permit for Southwick House which is in the process of purchasing a residence at 115 East Logan Street to serve as a residential space. Separately, commissioners could approve the rezoning of 518 Market Street from single-family attached to civic/public use status to accommodate the new Emporia Fire station.
Commissioners will also have to find that the 1962 building on the property does not have enough historic significance to warrant it not being demolished as part of the project. A resolution declaring property at 417 Commercial Street as blighted, an ordinance to rezone property at 518 South Congress from single-family detached to single-family attached, a public hearing and possible resolution for the submission of a CDBG grant application and an external auditors report will also see consideration and possible approval.
A declaration recognizing National Teachers Hall of Fame Day in Emporia and one executive session are also planned.
Following their action session, commissioners will move to their regular study meeting with the CIP budget, a review of the National Electrical Code 2020 and Make My Move all set for discussion. The meetings will begin at 11 am inside of the Municipal Courtroom before moving to City Conference Room 1AB.
