Last week, Lyon County Area Transportation Director Shane Brunner updated county commissioners on East Central Kansas Coordinated Transit Council, as well as LCAT’s goal of serving as the host site for what’s called a mobility manager for the regional group.
Brunner had more details on that effort on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday. He says the state has wanted a regional approach like this for at least five years, and there are several goals in mind as things continue to develop.
Another goal is to identify and reduce transportation barriers.
There are currently 10 transit districts. Brunner says Lyon County is in District 5, along with Anderson, Chase, Greenwood, Linn, Morris and Wabaunsee counties. There are also over 20 transportation agencies in District 5. The list of agencies is online at KVOE.com.
This effort comes as LCAT is in a period of lower ridership, but Brunner says this is a typical trend for the summer months and he expects ridership to increase when school and college students return to classes in August.
Meanwhile, Brunner says there have been no complaints with LCAT’s shift from fixed routes to the on-demand buses, with the weekend changeover last fall and a change in one of the two weekday routes from fixed to demand at the start of the year.
