For the second time this week, a brand new business opened its doors to the public in Emporia.
Middle Ground Books held its grand opening at 606 Commercial Street Friday afternoon. In addition to a large selection of new and used books, the business also includes a cafe, lounge area and children’s section.
Owner Deborah Rundus says she and her fellow owners constructed the space to be more than just a bookstore, they want it to be a “third space” for the entire community.
Owner Lance Rundus hopes the store will represent the “best elements of what it means to be a Kansan.”
Owner Megan Love, a librarian by trade and a lifelong reader says opening the store is a dream come true.
The opening of Middleground Books fills a niche left in the community after the closing of Ellen Plumb Book Store in 2020 which followed the closing of Town Crier in 2015. For more information, be sure to visit Middlegroundbooks.com.
The opening of Middle Ground was the second grand opening in Emporia this week after El Rio Bravo Supermarket held its ribbon cutting Wednesday morning.
