Now that Emporia State University has had its plan to keep tuition flat and reduce fees for the upcoming academic year, how long can it maintain that approach for students?
As long as possible, according to President Ken Hush.
Hush says a committee developed a recommendation to increase both tuition and fees, but university leadership saw the combination of increased efficiencies and additional state funding, including money to retire the debt associated with renovating the Memorial Union in 2010, and decided to cut fees by $250 for undergraduate students and $350 for graduate students. Emporia State was the only university to request that combination from the Kansas Board of Regents and have that request approved.
In his interview with KVOE News, Hush again credited partners such as the ESU Foundation, city of Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas lawmakers, alums, donors and foundations for their support
