Summertime heat didn’t stop the Lyon County Republicans from having their annual picnic at the Jones Park Shelter House on Sunday.
Danedri Herbert, the media relations coordinator for Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, says events like the one Sunday are good for energizing the party base and also good for spreading the word about different candidates.
Numerous candidates appeared Sunday, most of whom have both primary and general election opponents lined up. One candidate who doesn’t have either — Kansas House 76th District heir apparent Brad Barrett of Osage City — was also on hand as he continues his work to supplant Representative Eric Smith of Burlington, who retired from the House after the recent special session and eight years serving the district.
Lyon County Democrats have a Meet and Mingle event from 6:30-8 pm Monday at Mulready’s Pub.
The primary election is Aug. 6. The general election is Nov. 5.
