As you’ve no doubt noticed, several fireworks stands are going up across the Emporia community with the sales and discharge period set to begin later this week.
The official sales and discharge period begins at 10 am Thursday with the Emporia Fire Department set to conduct stand inspections the same day. Emporia Fire Marshall Reason Bradford, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, says they will be busy with inspections this year noting there is a slight uptick in stands from the prior year.
When it comes to inspections, Bradford says there are several things they keep an eye out for including electrical hazards and illegal fireworks.
When it comes to illegal fireworks, Bradford says it is rarely an issue within Emporia.
The cost for opening a firework stand averages around $3,000 each year with those proceeds going to support the annual Emporia Fireworks display which is scheduled for the Fourth of July at 9:45 pm on the Emporia State University campus.
For those planning to purchase and discharge fireworks, the discharge period is 10 am to 10 pm June 27 through July 2nd, 10 am to 11 pm July 3rd and 4th and 10 am to 10 pm July 5th. Fireworks are allowed within the corporate limits of Emporia, between June 27th to July 5th from the hours of 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On July 3rd and 4th they are allowed from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM in the City of Emporia.

🎆 No fireworks may be discharged in parks, the Emporia Golf Course, city parking lots or recreational fields, the Emporia Zoo, the Emporia Recreation Center, or the Jones Aquatic Center parking lot.
🎆 No fireworks may be discharged within 200 square feet of the property line of a hospital, a school, or nursing home.
🎆 No bottle rockets, sparklers with metal, or unmanned aerials.
