For the first time since 2016, the Kansas Shrine Bowl has returned to Emporia.
Welch Stadium will host the 51st annual game which benefits the Shriners Hospital for Children at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
Kansas Shrine Bowl Executive Director Brice Kesler says he would like to see a packed Welch Stadium to benefit a great cause.
Pregame festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m. The Kansas Shrine Bowl Parade will be at 10 a.m. and go south on Commercial from 12th to 4th. An Alumni Gameday Reunion is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Dynamic Discs.
Friday’s festivities will include the Kansas Shrine Bowl Golf Tournament at 9 a.m. at Emporia Golf Course leading into the Friday Night All-Star Showcase at 6 p.m. at Welch Stadium.
Kesler says performances from the band and cheer squad, the teams will be introduced, and awards presentations. The evening will conclude with a performance from Topeka band Chance Encounter.
Activities begin on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Nex-Tech Wireless with a community kickoff.
Lyndon’s Tanner Heckel and Kaedin Massey are the two area representatives for the East squad playing in the game. Three Emporia State signees will play in their future home. Sage Huffman of Blue Valley West and Sam Hull of Humboldt will play for the East while Aydan Spires of Kapaun Mt. Carmel will play for the West.
