It’s that time of year.
Plenty of pops, sizzles and — yes — kabooms are coming areawide over the next week-plus. And here in Emporia, fireworks are now legal for the Fourth of July time period as of 10 am Thursday.
Emporia Fire Marshal Reason Bradford, a guest on KVOE’s Morning Show this week, is urging safety, as you can imagine.
As has been the case for years, bottle rockets, lanterns and metal-handled sparklers are not allowed. Other things to consider:
*No fireworks may be discharged in the streets.
*No fireworks may be discharged in parks, the Emporia Golf Course, city parking lots or recreational fields, the Emporia Zoo, the Emporia Recreation Center, or the Jones Aquatic Center parking lot.
*No fireworks may be discharged within 200 square feet of the property line of a hospital, a school, or nursing home.
Emporia’s allowed sales and discharge times are 10 am to 10 pm through Tuesday, 10 am to 11 pm July 3-4 and 10 am to 10 pm July 5.
The city’s annual fireworks show will be shortly after dusk July 4, with activities again at the Emporia State University campus.
