Federal funding will help an energy efficiency project in Cottonwood Falls.
The US Department of Agriculture announced over 20 clean energy projects, including work by Mary Hobert LLC to bui and install a solar array for the 1879 Stone House bed and breakfast. The 6.6-kilowatt project could replace almost 8,500 kilowatt hours of energy per year, or about 85 percent of the business’ annual electricity use. This step could save the bed and breakfast around $1,100 per year.
The grant amount for the work in Cottonwood Falls is for just under $15,000.
Funding through the USDA’s Rural Development REAP program — standing for Rural Energy for America — is designed to lower energy bills, expand clean energy access and foster job growth in rural Kansas. The program lets rural business owners and ag producers make energy efficiency improvements and/or expand their use of renewable energy like water, wind, solar and geothermal.
