Extreme heat will be back in the forecast to end the work week.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for the entire listening area affecting Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 1 pm to 7 pm Friday. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory from noon to 8 pm.
The advisories reflect forecasted highs in the upper 90s with heat index values possibly as high as 108. Given the forecasted temperatures, residents are reminded to take several precautions to limit their risk of heat-related illness.
This includes drinking lots of water, wearing light and loose-fitting clothes, adjusting workload timing and taking extra breaks as needed. Also, residents are told not to leave children and pets in unattended vehicles and to check in on elderly family members and neighbors who may not have air conditioning.
