One week after it was placed in a blue-green algae watch, Emporia State University’s King Lake was upgraded to an algae warning.
The warning includes several recommendations from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment:
*Water is unsafe for humans and animals.
*Avoid all contact with water.
*Inhalation of spray or aerosols may be harmful.
*Do not let pets eat dried algae or drink contaminated water.
*If fish are caught, clean well with potable water and eat fillet portion only.
The warning follows a recent sampling of the water and indicates a harmful bloom is either present or expected. The next sampling is set for July 8.
