Former Emporia State baseball coach Dave Bingham will be inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame later this year.
Bingham is one of 12 inductees in this year’s class that was announced on Sunday. The class will be inducted on Sunday, October 13 in Topeka. Bingham played two seasons at Emporia State (1969-70) and returned as head coach in 1973. Bingham had a record of 557-270-2 from 1973 to 1987 as well as leading the Hornets to the 1978 NAIA National Championship. Bingham was named District 10 Coach of the Year 11 times and was a 3-time recipient of the NAIA Coach of the Year. After Emporia State, Bingham coached at The University of Kansas from 1988 to 1995 leading the Jayhawks to two NCAA Tournament appearances and one NCAA College World Series appearance in 1993. Bingham was the United States head coach for the 1984 World Cup and an assistant coach for the 1984 and 1988 Olympics, and the 1988 Baseball World Cup.
Bingham is a member of Emporia State’s Hall of Honor, the NAIA Hall of Fame, the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame as well as The University of Kansas Athletics Hall of Fame.
Notable names joining Bingham in the class include Kansas State high jumper Erik Kynard, Former KU football coach Mark Mangino, Longtime Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Will Shields, Current KU Special Assistant to the Head Coach Sean Snyder, and former Kansas guard and Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon.
