Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh says an Illinois man was arrested after a pursuit started near the Lyon-Chase county line and ended in Franklin County on Sunday.
Welsh says the incident developed around 8:30 pm on US Highway 50 between Saffordville and the county line. A deputy had stopped a car for allegedly driving in the left lane, but the driver — later identified as 39-year-old Azim Ray of Mount Prospect — drove away.
Ray allegedly drove to Emporia and turned north on Interstate 35, driving to near Williamsburg before stopping. Welsh says Ray allegedly dodged several stop stick deployment before he was arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude, felony interference with law enforcement, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, endangerment and other charges.
Formal charges are pending.
