Formal charges are pending against the driver and passenger after two alleged chases starting in Emporia on Tuesday.
Lyon County Sgt. Zach Shafer says 37-year-old Frederick Beecher Hogue was the driver. He was arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude, felony possession of stolen property, felony interference with law enforcement, “numerous” traffic infractions and an out-of-state warrant originating in Jasper County, Missouri.
The passenger, 36-year-old Sara Rogers of Granby, Missouri, was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Both were arrested after a local chase beginning at around 4 am Tuesday and a four-county chase from Emporia to near Ottawa that developed around 5:40 am. Deputies noticed a possibly stolen black SUV, triggering the first pursuit after Hogue allegedly drove off from an attempted traffic stop. Law enforcement then say they saw the same vehicle on Interstate 35 near Emporia’s eastern city limits and pursued, using stop sticks four separate times during the incident.
