Work on Emporia’s extensive 24th and Prairie water main replacement project is closing in on a significant milestone.
Crews are setting up to bore under Interstate 35 as early work continues. As part of that process, they will need to build a pipe from the east drive of the Emporia Pavilions shopping center to Apple Lane. Additional work involves a smaller water line on the south side of West 24th that will run west from Apple Lane to Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
The paving subcontractor is also working on a trench in 24th along the south side of the Pavilions property.
This is part of work over the next year-plus to install brand-new pipe, ranging from 6 inches to two feet in diameter, from 24th and Industrial east to Prairie and south to 12th.
