Melvern Lake has seen a lot of progress with repairs after tornadic activity late last week.
The marina, hard-hit by an EF-0 tornado June 28, is reporting access to all of the dry storage facility has been restored and slip renters for several docks — the south side of D, all of E and all of Y — have access to their boats. The parts and service shop is tentatively set to reopen Friday.
The marina store remains closed with no services available at least through the weekend.
Meanwhile, the US Army Corps of Engineers says all campsites are open and available for the weekend, even with trees down in open areas and scattered tree limbs still downed. The tree damage at Couer d’Alene Beach was cleaned up, but heavy rain this week has led to flooding and the closure of that beach area. Outlet Beach remains open.
Those lake areas were hit by the last of three small tornadoes that touched down this past Friday. The one that hit Melvern Lake was only 30 yards wide at the base and stayed on the ground for less than half a mile. It had peak winds of 85 mph. The other two tornadoes, one that touched down southwest of Osage City and one that touched down between Admire and Reading, were both small.
