After a relatively calm day for the Fourth of July, Emporia firefighters had a burst of activity Thursday night.
Emporia Fire went to a polycart fire in the 900 block of Sylvan around 10 pm. Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the incident was fireworks-related. No injuries were reported.
As crews were finishing their response to that call, Emporia Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the 2200 block of Burlingame Road. Steinlage says the fire started on the house exterior. The unnamed house owner had the fire largely out by the time Emporia Fire arrived, and firefighters were able to keep the fire from working inside the home.
Steinlage says the cause is under investigation, but it appears to be an accidental incident and does not appear to be fireworks-related.
