Formal charges have been filed against two individuals in a Lyon County human trafficking and child sexual exploitation case.
Both 41-year-old Maria Elena Trillo and 45-year-old Jesus Manuel Trillo Hurtado of Emporia have been formally charged with two counts each of aggravated human trafficking and aggravated commercial sexual exploitation of a child. Maria Trillo will have her first appearance Monday at 1:15 pm in Lyon County District Court before Judge Doug Jones.
A first appearance date is currently pending for Jesus Trillo Hurtado.
Court documents available on the Kansas District Court Public Access portal, say the charges stem from alleged activity between January and May of 2016 and allege that Trillo unlawfully and feloniously recruited, harbored, transported, provided or obtained a person under the age of 18 to engage in involuntary servitude, forced labor or sexual gratification. The affidavit in the case is sealed.
Both individuals were booked into the Lyon County Jail on Wednesday and remain there at last word.
