Pioneer Bluffs has added a new member to its leadership.
Local rancher Sammy Jo Peterson was named as the agency’s new operations director in a news release earlier this week. Peterson, a native of Chase County, brings an extensive knowledge of agriculture and the Flint Hills to the position.
Peterson has spent the majority of her life in the ranching industry and has a plethora of experience in a variety of roles including backgrounding cattle through the winter and summer months, doctoring sick horses, fixing fences and “maintaining the health of the prairie. In the aforementioned news release, Peterson stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity to take on this new role at Pioneer Bluffs. Since graduating college and moving back, I have been searching for my “place” in this community that has always been my home – and I have found it.”
In addition to her background, Peterson also has somewhat of a familial attachment to Pioneer Bluffs as she is the great-great-great granddaughter of David W. Mercer who founded and named the town of Matfield Green which is located just a mile south of Pioneer Bluffs. Peterson will be joining KVOE’s Primetime Newsmaker at 7:20 am Tuesday to discuss her new appointment and plans for the agency.
