Lyon County Commissioners will be exceeding the revenue-neutral rate for 2025.
Commissioners approved a notice to the Lyon County Clerk’s Office stating such during their regular action meeting Thursday morning. The meeting followed a study session Wednesday where commissioners reviewed and discussed the proposed 2025 budget.
Currently, the budget will see a better than half-mill decrease from 2024 with a mill levy rate of 56.972. According to Lyon County Controller Dan Williams, he and the commission are very pleased with the budget in its current form, especially after last year saw a 4.5 mill increase.
He tells KVOE News the county was able to lower the levy thanks to payments on a major project coming to an end coupled with increased interest on “cash in the bank.”
County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the RNR on Thursday, August 29. Commissioners could also certify the 2025 budget that same day.
Separately Thursday, Harold Mayes of Agler and Gaeddert presented the county’s annual audit report which came back relatively clean aside one minor “violation” as the Special Bridge fund went slightly over their budget authority. According to Williams, unexpected costs near the end of the calendar year were the main contributor to this.
The county did follow proper procedure and the costs were posted near the end of the year. However; due to the timing of said costs, there was little to no time for the county to follow traditional re-publishing procedures.
That being said, the costs did not bring any additional financial burden or penalties to the county.
In other business Thursday, commissioners also approved a quote from Time Clock Plus to add all county employees to the county time clock, a $22,000 purchase of steel casing from Gateway Steel Pipe & Supply and a pair of recommendations for applications presented by Lyon County Planning and Zoning administrator Sam Seeley.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene next Thursday for its regular action meeting at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
