Not surprisingly, education and business policies were part of KVOE’s Candidate Forum involving the Republican candidates for the Kansas Senate 17th District on Thursday.
Longtime educator and ag producer Mike Argabright and businessman David Schneider discussed those topics and more. On education policy, both candidates say they were pleased lawmakers have decided to fully fund public education. When it comes to public funds for private schools, Argabright says he is not in favor of that step.
Schneider mentioned his reluctance to send public money to private schools, although he says other changes could help private schools.
Medicaid expansion has been seen in some circles as benefiting workers, businesses and hospitals — but in other circles as rewarding people with benefits for not working and also being too expensive. Using his time on the Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees as a foundation, Argabright says he supports expansion.
Schneider does not support expansion for one reason:

Kansas Senate 17th District candidates Mike Argabright and David Schneider, both Republicans, discussed policy matters like education funding, tax policy changes, Medicaid expansion and 2025 legislative priorities during the nearly-hourlong interview. Both candidates are hoping to represent the district following the recent retirement of Jeff Longbine.
