The Kansas Office of the State Fire Marshal reported a handful of illegal fireworks seizures and just one injury investigation as part of its 2024 Fireworks Report.
Public Information Officer Lance Feyh says the Fire Marshal’s Investigation Division inspected 202 fireworks stands across the state, noting over 120 deficiencies like exits, fire extinguishers and trash — most of which were handled on site. There were nine separate seizures of illegal fireworks at stands, with bottle rockets listed as the only violation. Details about the injury investigation have not been announced.
Last year, the Fire Marshal’s Office handled 60 inspections. There were 12 deficiencies and violations handled on site and five seizures for illegal fireworks.
The Fire Marshal’s Office lists issues by region, not by county or city. Feyh says the seizures were in the northwest and southeast Kansas regions, while the injury was in the northwest region.
