Court processes are underway in Coffey County after an alleged law enforcement pursuit recently.
Coffey County Sheriff Tom Johnson says deputies began a routine traffic stop on an SUV near US Highway 75 and 22nd Road, about five miles south of Beto Junction and three miles north of Coffey County Airport, shortly before 8 pm July 8. The driver, identified later as 40-year-old Ryan Spalding, hometown not listed, allegedly took off. Deputies then allegedly pursued Spalding on US Highway 75 into Burlington, where the chase ended at Saint Lawrence Street.
Spalding is officially charged with aggravated battery against law enforcement, aggravated assault on law enforcement and flee and elude.
Spalding’s next court appearance will be at 11:30 am July 24 before Judge Kara Reynolds. Jack Hobbs has been appointed as defense counsel.
