The 2024 primary election is less than a month away, and there are several important dates of note for Lyon County voters this week.
As part of KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Election Officer Tammy Vopat encouraged residents to take advantage of the offsite voting event at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building this week. Typically, offsite voting is reserved to a Saturday, but that won’t be the case this election cycle.
Hours are:
*Wednesday: 10 am to 3 pm
*Thursday: 10 am to 7 pm
*Friday: 10 am to 3 pm
*Saturday: 9 am to 1 pm
Vopat also reminded residents the end of the voter registration process comes at 5 pm Tuesday, followed almost immediately by the opening of advance voting Wednesday for people requesting mail ballots and the start of in-person advance voting July 22. Vopat says the recent pause in the ballot process when Sheriff’s Office candidate Daniel Klingensmith was removed following an expungement and then sued to stay on the ballot will not affect the schedule.
Other things to consider:
*Residents wanting a mail ballot must officially request that paperwork no later than July 30
*In-person advance voting ends at noon Aug. 5
*The primary election is Aug. 6
*The vote canvass or certification is Aug. 13
