Formal charges are pending after an alleged chase in the Emporia city limits Sunday.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers were investigating an unlisted alleged crime involving 33-year-old Raul Mendoza, who was reportedly driving a white SUV at the time a reckless driving incident was called in on Interstate 35 with a matching vehicle description. As the SUV arrived in town, an officer tried a vehicle stop on East US Highway 50, but the SUV then fled south on Weaver.
The resulting chase, Mattas says, worked westbound to Prairie Street, north to 12th, west to Industrial Road and north to Interstate 35. The SUV went northbound on I-35 until it left at mile marker 133 and then went westbound back to Emporia before getting disabled and eventually stopping in the 1800 block of East Highway 50.
Mattas says Mendoza was the SUV driver. Mendoza was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude, along with unspecified other traffic charges.
