KVOE News resumed its Candidate Forum series and also began its look at the races for Lyon County Commission with its program Tuesday.
The focus Tuesday morning was the County Commission Second District race involving the Republicans on the ballot, incumbent Doug Peck and challenger Sid Morgan. If elected, Peck says budget decisions, regardless of the specific situation, often revolve around the level of service through each department.
Morgan sees a lot of fat to clear out of the budget.
Peck and Morgan have the same general approach when it comes to large-dollar allocation requests like those coming over the last decade from Newman Regional Health, Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College — considering them on a case-by-case basis — but they disagree on how those requests for Newman Regional Health specifically should be handled. Peck is more favorable, depending on the request, than Morgan.
KVOE’s Candidate Forum series concludes July 23 with the Republicans running for County Commission Third District, including Chris Bartel, Warren Schmidt, Jarom Smith and Jon Vopat. The forum begins at 10:06 am. All Candidate Forums are stored in the KVOE.com Audio Vault after they are finished.
