Two area counties will benefit from federal reimbursement dollars after severe weather earlier this year.
President Joe Biden has approved Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s request for a federal disaster declaration involving Greenwood, Morris and 10 other counties due to severe storms April 25-30, including up to 9 inches of rain in Greenwood County on April 26-27, flooded roads, washed-out bridges and isolated severe hail.
Funds will be processed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance Program, which reimburses cities, counties, electric cooperatives and other entities for repairs or replacements due to storm damage. The Kelly request also begins the state’s event-specific eligibility for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for work to end or minimize long-term risk “to life and property from natural hazards.”
