Some of the renovations and new equipment at Little Lyons Childcare will have a decidedly Kentucky Fried aspect to them.
No, the playground equipment funded by the KFC Foundation isn’t edible, but the $10,000 coming officially from the Kentucky Fried Wishes community giving program helps to finish off an infant-toddler playground after significant grants from the Trusler Foundation. Ignite Emporia CEO Michelle Margeson tells KVOE News this grant signifies a lot of behind-the-scenes work to fund the project and open up the daycare.
Little Lyons has already secured over $2.3 million in state funding along with a $250,000 anonymous gift to help with operations.
Initially, the plan was to open Little Lyons by early July, but Margeson says the facility needs a visit and final ruling from the Kansas Office of State Fire Marshal before it can open the doors. The tentative start time now is next month. Three classrooms are almost completely through the renovation process, and that work will continue in other classrooms once the Fire Marshal’s Office gives its approval to open the facility.
