Nobody was hurt after a destructive semi fire in southern Osage County early Friday.
The wreck happened on US Highway 75 between the east and west legs of Kansas Highway 278, or about four miles west-northwest of Melvern. Osage County Sheriff Chris Wells tells KVOE News the semi was completely engulfed as authorities arrived shortly after 7 am. The semi was hauling about 3,500 gallons of diesel fuel when a tire blowout ruptured the tank. About 2,500 gallons were saved.
US-75 has been closed since the wreck and should reopen shortly before noon. Wells says there is some shoulder damage but there is little to no damage to the highway itself.
Wells tells TV-13 that Lyndon Fire, Melvern Fire, Osage County Emergency Medical Services, Osage County Emergency Management and the Kansas Department of Transportation have all responded to the wreck site.
