Once again, the town of Olpe had nonstop activities from sun up to sun down Saturday.
Despite some early morning rainfall, the 2024 Olpe Downhome Days slate of events went off without a hitch. The morning hours featured a series of bike races, a 5K water gun fun run and kids fishing derby.
The return of the Downhome Days car show and the annual parade highlighted the afternoon schedule before the evening concluded with the Olpe Fire Department pulled pork meal, an arm wrestling competition, kids games and a street dance. Downhome Days committee member and Olpe City Clerk Joyce Wilson says she is always happy to see a solid turnout for the activities and to see so many generations of Olpe residents coming back year after year.
Since its return in 2003, Downhome Days has supported various improvements to Olpe Park with the current focus being the construction of a new splash pad. According to Wilson, they may not be too far off from hitting their fundraising goal with over $150,000 raised thus far for the project.
Fundraising totals from Saturday will be announced at a later time.
